Chris graduated from the University of Wales with a first-class honours degree in engineering and went on to gain an MSc in Building Services Engineering from the University of Glasgow. After graduating he joined Arup in 1981 and there gained 30 years of experience in sustainable building design, master planning and low and zero carbon site-wide infrastructure design and sustainable building and policy consultancy where he led the Arup’s Sustainable Buildings Team in London. Seminal mixed mode buildings Chris designed include the GSW Headquarters in Berlin, the Jessop’s building for the University of Sheffield and the Siemens Crystal in London.
He joined Foster + Partners in 2011 helping to found the engineering team which brings integrated engineering design to projects across the practice. Since then he has worked on a wide variety of projects in UK, Portugal, China, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and USA. These include significant mixed mode office developments for owner-occupiers, cultural buildings, airport buildings and sustainable master plans.
He is now Head of Sustainability and leading the sustainability team which guides all projects in aspects of social, environmental and economic sustainability. Additionally his role includes running a sustainability network throughout the practice to ensure that all staff have an increasing understanding of practical.
